Chelsea stats

Chelsea have reached the semi-final of a major European competition for the 15th time.

This is our eighth Champions League semi-final and first since 2014, more than any other English club since the competition started in 1992. We have progressed from two of the previous seven.

Chelsea are unbeaten in all five Champions League matches against Spanish opposition this season (three wins, two draws).

Thomas Tuchel’s side have kept 17 clean sheets in our last 23 matches in all competitions.

The Blues have won five of our 13 two-legged European knockout ties against Spanish clubs. Atletico Madrid in this season’s round of 16 was the most recent. Five of our eight defeats have been against Barcelona.

Chelsea have progressed from five of our last seven knockout ties in the Champions League when avoiding defeat away from home in the first leg.

We have won one of our last seven home knockout stage games in the Champions League (two draws, four defeats).

Thomas Tuchel is yet to taste defeat in five Champions League matches against Real Madrid in his managerial career.

Christian Pulisic became the first American to score in a Champions League semi-final, and he is also the youngest Chelsea player to score in a last-four tie in the competition (22 years 221 days).

Since the beginning of 2018, we have won three and lost three penalty shoot-outs. We lost our one this season 5-4 away at Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.

Milestones

If selected, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic will play their 50th game of the season for club and country, and will join Mason Mount and Timo Werner who have already reached this landmark.

Real Madrid stats

Madrid's record in two-legged knockout ties against English clubs is nine wins and five defeats. They have won four of the last five, with the exception being last season's defeat by Manchester City.

On Saturday Real Madrid remained two points behind La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid after late goals from Eder Militao and Casemiro sealed victory over Osasuna. Third-placed Barcelona are level on points with Los Blancos but beneath them in the table because Real have won both El Clasico games this season.

A 2-1 reverse at home to Levante on 30 January is Madrid's only defeat in their last 24 Liga matches (17 wins, six draws).

Madrid are unbeaten in 19 matches in all competitions (13 wins) and have kept clean sheets in five of their last six fixtures. Three of them were goalless draws.

Zinedine Zidane's side have conceded nine goals in that 19-match unbeaten run, and never more than once in a game.

Zidane is going for a fourth Champions League victory as Real Madrid manager. Prior to this tie, Zidane had never managed or played for a team against Chelsea.

Real’s most recent penalty shoot-out in Europe was in the 2016 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid which they won 5-3.

Marcelo's next appearance in the Champions League proper will be his 100th in the competition.

Champions League scorers

Benzema 6, Vinicius 3, Asensio 2, Ramos 2 (1 pen), Casemiro 1, Hazard 1 (pen), Mendy 1, Modric 1, Rodrygo 1, own-goal 1.
