Chelsea Women host Brighton in the Women's Super League looking to bounce back from Sundays' Continental League Cup final defeat.

Chelsea Women's first chance of silverware slipped away at the weekend, but there are still three trophies up for grabs for the Blues this season as attention returns to Women's Super League and a midweek fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion Women, our first at home in the league this year.

It is our first league fixture at any venue for over a month, after domestic cup competitions took priority during February, and the first of the resulting two games in hand we have over top-of-the-table Manchester United in which to reel in their four-point lead.

Brighton's visit also gives Emma Hayes and her team an early chance to put Sunday's loss to Arsenal in the Continental League Cup behind us and get back to winning ways, having previously gone undefeated since September.

When and where?

Chelsea Women are at home on the evening of Wednesday 8 March, with Brighton the visitors to Kingsmeadow.

Kick-off time

The match is scheduled to start at 7.30pm.

Where to watch

As always, you can follow the game via Chelsea Women’s social media channels. There will be live commentary on our Twitter page and regular updates on Facebook and Instagram. Simply search ‘ChelseaFCW’ on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Supporters who cannot attend will be able to watch the match on Sky Sports and the FA Player.

The form

It was a disappointing weekend for Chelsea Women, as we suffered our first defeat in any competition since losing away at Liverpool on the first day of the WSL season, way back in September.

That latest loss came to Arsenal in the final of the Continental League Cup at Selhurst Park, as Sam Kerr's early opening goal was cancelled out before half-time in a 3-1 defeat. However, it did continue the Australian striker's excellent form, registering her 11th goal in our last six matches.

We are still undefeated in the league since September, though, with our two WSL fixtures in 2023 so far seeing us draw 1-1 away to Arsenal, before winning 3-2 at Tottenham.

Brighton haven't had the best start to 2023 in the WSL picking up one point from their three matches, a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa being sandwiched between a 6-2 defeat to the same opponents and a 3-0 loss at Leicester, although they did record big victories over West Brom and Coventry in the Women's FA Cup, racking up 12 goals without reply across the two games.

Chelsea Women vs Brighton Women recent head-to-head record

We have already beaten Brighton in the WSL once this season, with Bethany England and Pernille Harder finding the net in a 2-0 victory at a rain-drenched Broadfield Stadium in October.

The last meeting between the two sides at Kingsmeadow was almost exactly a year earlier, in October 2021, and ended with another win for the Blues, when Guro Reiten, Kerr and England all got on the score sheet to give us a 3-1 win.

Next up for the Blues

We are in WSL action at Kingsmeadow again for a massive game this weekend, as we host league leaders Manchester United at 12.30pm on Sunday 12 March.
