Chelsea Women welcome Everton to Kingsmeadow in the Women’s Super League on Sunday in the second of three successive matches on home soil this week.

The Blues began the month of May with a narrow 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Wednesday night. Goals from former Reds player Niamh Charles and from Sam Kerr completed the comeback after Emma Koivisto had given Matt Beard’s side an early lead.

A busy run-in towards the end of the season continues on Sunday night when the blue half of Merseyside come to the capital. This will be the second of three home league games on the bounce for Emma Hayes’ side as we look to secure three points to maintain our title challenge.

Brian Sorensen’s Everton team will prove another stern test as they did during the reverse fixture at Walton Hall Park in October, where we came away 3-1 winners thanks to a brace from Pernille Harder and an excellent solo strike from Charles.

When and where?

Everton are the visitors to Kingsmeadow in the Women’s Super League this Sunday 7 May, with kick-off scheduled for 6.45pm (UK time)

The form

We come into this match occupying third place in the WSL table with 43 points having won 14, drawn one and lost two of our 17 matches to date. We have scored 44 goals and conceded 15 leaving us with a goal difference of +29, while having two games in hand on first and second place.

Victory against Liverpool was our first league fixture in over a month due to our progression in the FA Cup and UEFA Women’s Champions League competitions, but we have won four of our last five WSL matches dating back to March.

Everton arrive at Kingsmeadow sitting sixth in the WSL table after 8 wins, 3 draws and 7 defeats from 18 matches, leaving them on 27 points. They have scored 24 goals and conceded 21 leaving them with a goal difference of +3.

In their most recent outing, Everton edged a five-goal thriller at Reading with a 3-2 victory at the Select Car Leasing Stadium. Goals from Hanna Bennison, Katja Snoeijs and Nicoline Sorensen saw them move to within three points of Aston Villa in fifth place.

Chelsea Women vs Everton Women recent head-to-head record

We travelled to Everton on Sunday 16 October for the reverse league fixture at Walton Hall Park, our first match without manager Hayes who was beginning her recovery from emergency surgery.

Pernille Harder gave us the lead on 37 minutes, but we were pegged back when Kadeisha Buchanan turned into her own net to level the scores shortly after the break.

Harder restored our lead from the spot on the hour mark, before Charles made sure of the victory with a brilliant solo run and finish to put the icing on the cake.

Next up for the Blues

After Everton, it’s another swift turnaround for the Blues who take on Leicester City in the Women’s Super League at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday 10 May.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7.00pm (UK time) and for supporters who cannot attend the match, this fixture will be available to watch live on the FA Player.
