Chelsea Women return to domestic duties when Liverpool are the visitors to Kingsmeadow in the Women’s Super League on Wednesday evening.
The Blues come into the match off the back of a valiant performance across two legs against Barcelona in the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-finals, where we were narrowly beaten 2-1 on aggregate at the Camp Nou last week.
Emma Hayes’ side have six league matches to navigate plus an FA Cup final date with Manchester United at Wembley during the month of May, and our attention turns swiftly to this busy run-in towards the end of the season.
We return to Kingsmeadow for the first time since 12 March and are back in league action having not played a WSL fixture since 2 April. Liverpool are the visitors on this occasion and have proven tough opposition in our two previous encounters this season.
When and where?
We welcome Liverpool to Kingsmeadow in the Women’s Super League this Wednesday 3 May, with kick-off scheduled for 7.15pm (UK time)

The form
We come into this match occupying third place in the WSL table with 40 points having won 13, drawn one and lost two of our 16 matches to date. We have scored 42 goals and conceded 14 leaving us with a goal difference of +28, while having three games in hand on the top two.
Four victories from our last five league matches, progression to the FA Cup final and going toe-to-toe with Barcelona across 180 minutes of football will give the squad confidence ahead of an important run of fixtures before the season concludes.
Liverpool arrive in the capital sitting seventh in the WSL table after five wins, four draws and ninedefeats from 18 matches. They have scored 18 goals and conceded 32 leaving them with a goal difference of -14.
In their most recent outing, Matt Beard’s side travelled to Leicester City on Saturday afternoon. The Reds were defeated there by four goals to nil, allowing Leicester to rise off the bottom of the table.
Chelsea Women vs Liverpool Women recent head-to-head record
Our most recent meeting with Liverpool came in the fourth round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup in January, where the Reds pushed us all the way as we edged an entertaining encounter 3-2 at Kingsmeadow.
Sam Kerr scored twice to put us in control, before Ceri Holland pulled a goal back for Liverpool with half an hour to play. Kerr netted her hat-trick 10 minutes from time before Gemma Bonner reduced the deficit once more with five minutes remaining, but we stood firm to progress to the fifth round.
Our previous league meeting with Liverpool came on the first day of the season when we were beaten 2-1 at Prenton Park. Fran Kirby opened the scoring from the spot inside five minutes, before two penalties from Katie Stengel turned the game on its head and gave the hosts three points.
