Chelsea Women can go a big step closer to qualifying for the knock-out stages of the Champions League as we host Real Madrid in a massive group game at Kingsmeadow...

When and where?

Chelsea Women are playing at Kingsmeadow for the first time this month, as we return to action there following the international break and a match at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. On home soil, we have won every game in all competitions since February.

Spanish side Real Madrid are the next visitors to Kingsmeadow on Wednesday 23 November, with kick-off at 8pm UK time.

The form

Chelsea have made an excellent start to our Champions League campaign, winning both of our opening two matches to take the lead in Group A, while a third victory in a row against Real Madrid would take us five points clear at the top of the table.

We are yet to concede a goal in Europe this season, having taken control of the group in our first fixture with hard-fought 1-0 win away at Paris Saint-Germain, before turning on the style with an 8-0 thrashing of Albanian champions Vllaznia at Kingsmeadow, during which Sam Kerr found the net four times.

Our domestic form hasn't been bad, either, with our 3-1 win at Manchester United before the international break and a 3-0 win against Tottenham at the Bridge making it seven consecutive victories in the Women's Super League.

Our Spanish opposition are in second place in Group A, two points behind the Blues. They started the competition promisingly, with a 2-0 win away at Vllaznia, but lost ground on Chelsea when they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Paris Saint-Germain.

Real Madrid are currently fifth in their domestic table, but only three points off second with a game in hand, while the 4-0 loss at home to league leaders Barcelona before the international break was their first defeat of the season in any competition.

Chelsea Women vs Real Madrid Women recent head-to-head record

This will be the first-ever meeting between these two sides, as our opponents compete in Europe for only the second time in their short history, since earning promotion to the Spanish top flight in 2019 and merging to become Real Madrid a year later. Their previous Champions League campaign, last season, ended at the quarter-finals after progressing from a group which also included Paris Saint-Germain.

However, for Chelsea, now in our seventh Champions League campaign, this will be the third time we have faced Spanish opposition in the competition. Both the previous ties came during 2020/21, as we reached the final for the first time.

We defeated Real's neighbours Atletico Madrid 3-1 on aggregate in an epic last-16 tie, which featured five penalties over the two legs - including two saved by Blues goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger and two scored by our Norwegian international Maren Mjelde - but were ultimately defeated 4-0 by Barcelona in the final in Sweden.

Next up for the Blues

Chelsea Women have a break after this match before returning to action in the Women's Super League, away at Leicester City on Saturday 3 December, with kick-off at 3pm.

We are then quickly back on European duty for the return tie with Real Madrid in Spain, which begins at 8pm UK time on Thursday 8 December.
