Chelsea Women take on Tottenham Hotspur in a hotly anticipated London derby at Stamford Bridge in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.

The Blues return to Stamford Bridge for our first competitive match since 2019, when Tottenham were also the visitors that day. We ran out 1-0 winners thanks to Bethany England’s fourth-minute wonder-strike in front of the Shed End.

Prior to the international break, we extended our winning run to eight matches in all competitions with an impressive 3-1 victory over Manchester United. Three second-half goals from Sam Kerr, Lauren James and Erin Cuthbert moved us up to second in the league table after seven matches.

On Sunday, we will take the opportunity to acknowledge two huge milestones in the club’s history. Emma Hayes celebrates her 10th year in charge of Chelsea Women, while we mark 30 years since the women’s team were established on what promises to be a special occasion as Hayes returns to the dugout.

The form

We began the month with an impressive 3-1 victory over Manchester United, who before our encounter had won all five of their league matches without conceding a goal. This extended our winning streak to eight consecutive matches in all competitions.

After six straight league victories, we occupy second place in the table with 18 points, having won six and lost one of our opening seven league matches. During this time we have scored 17 goals, conceding six in the process leaving us with a goal difference of +11.

Striker Kerr has scored in all four of her Barclays WSL appearances against Tottenham, with the Australian netting five goals in total, while James has been involved in four goals in her last two Barclays WSL games (three goals, one assist).

Tottenham come into this game sitting fifth in the league table with nine points, having won three and lost two of their opening five league matches. They have scored 11 goals and conceded eight leaving them with a goal difference of +3.

Spurs have not been in WSL action since Sunday 30 October, when they scored eight goals without reply against Brighton & Hove Albion in a ruthless display. Ashleigh Neville, Jessica Naz and Blues legend Drew Spence all bagged braces alongside goals from Molly Bartrip and Nikola Karczewska.

It was an unrelenting performance which saw Spurs score as many goals in that match as they had in their previous 12 league games combined.

Chelsea Women vs Tottenham Hotspur Women recent head-to-head record

Our previous league meeting with Tottenham came in April of last season, when we secured a 2-1 victory on home soil at Kingsmeadow.

England opened the scoring for the Blues that day, before Kerys Harrop drew the visitors level on the verge of half-time, only for Kerr to restore our lead almost instantly.

In the reverse league fixture away from home, which happened just four days prior to our encounter at Kingsmeadow, we ran out 3-1 winners at the Hive Stadium despite being reduced to 10 players.

We fell behind to a Sophie Ingle own goal but Guro Reiten, Kerr and Jessie Fleming completed an impressive comeback, having seen goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger dismissed in the first half.

Next up for the Blues

The Blues face a quick turnaround and return to UEFA Women’s Champions League action this Wednesday 23 November, with Real Madrid the visitors to Kingsmeadow.

We are looking to maintain our 100 per cent record in the group stages, having won our first two matches against Paris Saint-Germain and Vllaznia, scoring nine goals without reply.

Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm (UK time) on matchday three and tickets are available to purchase
