We take a look back at some of the greatest Chelsea goals scored against West Ham United.

There have been some absolute belters netted in this derby clash between east and west London over the years, whether that was at Stamford Bridge, the London Stadium or the Hammers’ former home, the Boleyn Ground.

From the early years of the Premier League, right up until the current day, here are some of our favourite Chelsea goals against West Ham for you to watch back and enjoy all over again…

Carney Chukwuemeka, August 2023

The young midfielder’s first Chelsea goal arrived in style on just his fourth Premier League start for the club. The England youth international showed quick feet to create and finish his chance to equalise half-an-hour into this early-season trip across the capital.

Unfortunately it wasn’t the happy occasion the quality of strike deserved, as West Ham fought back in the second half to win 3-1, by which time Chukwuemeka had been forced off with an injury that ruled him out until January.

Thankfully balance was restored when the Hammers came to the Bridge later in the season, as we triumphed 5-0.

Eden Hazard, April 2019

The brilliant Belgian scored his fair share of incredible goals for Chelsea, but this is right up there with the best of them.

Like much of Eden’s most impressive moments, there didn’t seem to be much danger when he received the ball from Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the middle of the park. Moments later five West Ham players had been left behind and the ball was nestling in the bottom corner of the net.

Hazard got a second almost as good as the first right at the end to seal a 2-0 win. The victory kept us safely in third place with five games remaining of a very tight race for Champions League qualification.

Michael Ballack, March 2008

If you want a video tutorial in the art of using the outside of the boot, look no further. Whether it’s Frank Lampard’s perfectly weighted cross or Ballack’s pinpoint volley, this is exactly how to do it.

It was a goal of the highest quality in an overall team performance to match, as we hammered West Ham 4-0 on their own turf, despite playing nearly an hour with 10 men after Lampard was sent off 10 minutes after providing his exquisite assist.

Shaun Wright-Phillips, April 2007

Our previous trip to the Boleyn Ground also produced four goals, including one from the top drawer, this time in a 4-1 win.

An exciting spell in the first half resulted in three goals in the space of six minutes, before we stamped our authority on the game. The first was an impressive solo run and finish by Wright-Phillips, followed by a Carlos Tevez equaliser, before the Blues winger gave us the lead again with an even better strike.

The angle was against him using his stronger right foot when Wayne Bridge’s low cross came into the box, but Wright-Phillips expertly opened up his body to use the power of the cross and guide a volley right into the top corner.

Mario Stanic, August 2000

Well, that is certainly one way to make sure people remember your Premier League debut! The Croatian midfielder had just arrived from Parma and was handed his chance from the start in our opening league game by boss Gianluca Vialli. He rewarded the Italian handsomely.

Stanic’s two second-half goals gave us a 4-2 victory, but it was the first which lived long in the memory. His first touch may not have been the best, but no-one cares about that when you follow it up with an impressive bit of ball juggling before looping a stunning half-volley into the top corner from miles out.

Mark Stein, February 1995

Substitute goalkeeper Kevin Hitchcock may have been the hero of this 2-1 win – our first in the league for more than two months – for a series of late saves despite having to play on with a broken nose, after already coming on to replace injured No1 Dmitri Kharine. But Stein’s stunning winner deserves plenty of credit too.

There were perhaps question marks around West Ham’s defending to give Stein space on the right, but they probably weren’t expecting to be punished so explosively from such a tight angle. However, the striker expertly cushioned Craig Burley’s pass on his chest before smashing a perfect half-volley over the keeper and into the far corner.
