Blue is the Colour - the official history of the Chelsea shirt which was published in November – is in the running for Illustrated Book of the Year having been named on the shortlist for the prize.

The coffee-table official publication sourced the all-time biggest collection of match-worn shirts, some donated by our players themselves, and put it on the page, complete with the story of how the Chelsea colours and designs have evolved over the years and across our home, away and in more recent times, third strips.

With all the changes catalogued design by design, season by season, and illustrated in match action too, Blue is the Colour has caught the eye of the 2025 Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards.

Nik Yeomans, who wrote the book and is long established as the foremost expert on Chelsea kits, said about the news of the nomination:

‘I am delighted that this book – which is the culmination of a lifetime of passion and research – has been recognised by the judges. Telling the story of our kit and the great players who have worn it is a way of telling the story of the club itself. When we were photographing these historic shirts we were literally touching history.’

The winner of the JP Marland Charitable Trust Illustrated Book of the Year accolade will be announced on 1 May, along with the other winners at what is the 23rd year of the Annual Sports Book Awards.

Blue is the Colour, which is priced at £35 and has a foreword from Frank Lampard, is in stock at the Chelsea online store
