With the FIFA World Cup 2022 drawing to a conclusion this weekend, we look back on when serving Blues have made it all the way to the final game in the famous tournament...

Sadly, with Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech being knocked out at the semi-final stage and N'Golo Kante missing from the France squad due to injury, there will be no Chelsea representation in this year's showpiece.

However, there have been several Blues who have appeared in the biggest game of all in the past 25 years, and here we detail Chelsea's World Cup finalists...

Marcel Desailly - 1998

Marcel Desailly signed for Chelsea on the eve of the 1998 World Cup and over the next few weeks showed his immense talent as France won the tournament on home soil. The Rock did not miss a minute of the tournament until he was dismissed for two bookable offences in the second half of the final, by which time Les Bleus were already 2-0 up. They added a late third.

Frank Leboeuf - 1998

Desailly's centre-back partner in the final was Frank Leboeuf, who replaced the suspended Laurent Blanc. Against the world's best striker, Ronaldo, Leboeuf excelled, helping his country keep a clean sheet in the biggest game of all.

William Gallas - 2006

William Gallas followed in the footsteps of Desailly and Leboeuf by playing at centre-back for France in a World Cup final. Unlike his predecessors, however, there was to be no happy ending as France were beaten on penalties by Italy. Gallas had been integral as hard-earned clean sheets were kept in France's quarter- and semi-final victories over Brazil and Portugal.

Claude Makelele - 2006

Like Gallas, Claude Makelele played every minute of the 2006 World Cup, which ended in such heartbreaking fashion for France. His midfield performances enabled Zinedine Zidane to play to his maximum.

Andre Schurrle - 2014

Andre Schurrle remains the only non-Frenchman to have played in a World Cup final while on Chelsea's books. The German was brought on during the first half of their 2014 final against Argentina, and made a telling contribution in extra-time, setting up Mario Gotze's brilliant winning goal.

Olivier Giroud – 2018

Olivier Giroud was the focal point of France’s World Cup-winning team last time out and, though he didn’t find the net during the tournament in Russia, his selfless work up front helped bring the best out of the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe.

N’Golo Kante – 2018

N’Golo Kante started every game during France’s run to glory in 2018, overcoming an illness scare to play in the 4-2 final victory over Croatia. Throughout the tournament he displayed his trademark dynamism in midfield as Les Bleus kept four clean sheets to lift the trophy for the second time.
