It is approaching nine hours since we conceded a goal with Christensen on the field, the 24-year-old having slotted effortlessly into the middle of the three-man backline deployed by Thomas Tuchel.

That run has included keeping out La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid as well as Manchester United and Liverpool, helping the team move back into the Premier League’s top four.

On a personal note, Christensen has started seven consecutive club matches for the first time since the spring of 2018 and he feels more comfortable with every passing minute on the pitch.

‘It’s been good to come in and obviously when the team is playing well, it’s easier for me to come in because I haven’t played a lot in a long time,’ the defender explained.

‘Getting the results is only going to help but for me it’s about getting more comfortable and doing the things that we want to do. It’s been great and I’m trying to enjoy every minute of it.’

Our latest victory and clean sheet came in Monday’s 2-0 win against Everton, a performance that once again highlighted the altered approach under our new head coach.

A solid defensive base has been developed with the switch to 3-4-3, providing the team with a good structure both in and out of possession. Meanwhile, further forward there is freedom to take risks and be creative in the final third.

‘It’s just very important for us to keep building on what we’re having at the minute,’ Christensen continued.

‘We have a solid defensive setup to start with and when we have that, it’s very easy for our offensive players to express themselves and do what they can do. At the moment, it’s really important to keep the momentum going.’

This upturn in form has been transformative since Tuchel took charge but Christensen is unwilling to pinpoint one change in particular that has sparked the turnaround in fortunes. Instead, he credits the new coaching staff with helping the players take on board instructions quickly and effectively.

‘We’ve always come in and worked hard as players and that’s very important for him [Tuchel] to get his messages and ideas across,’ added the Academy graduate.

‘It’s important that we try to listen and get them on board as quickly as possible, but still to do them right.

‘We’ve been quite good at adapting in that situation but it’s hard to say what we’re doing differently to before. It’s just right now we have a good feeling and a good run of results so we must make sure we keep that winning mentality.’

The next test in this relentless season comes this lunchtime at Elland Road as the Blues visit West Yorkshire for a league game for the first time in over 17 years. Christensen knows it will be an intense battle against Marcelo Bielsa’s all-action team so has highlighted calmness and control as key for the visitors.

‘They’re a very physical team that runs a lot, very expressive in the way they play and a real pressing team,’ he added. ‘We have to do what we’re doing right now which is to be calm and try to control the game as much as possible.

‘We’re still building as a team and we’re not done yet. We have to keep building, keep the momentum and keep winning.’
