England national team manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Levi Colwill has travelled with the Three Lions squad for Friday’s Euro 2024 qualifier in Malta, after Brighton defender Lewis Dunk pulled out due to injury.
The 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan as a team-mate of Dunk’s, has been training with England in recent days. He has also been named in the England Under-21 squad for their European Championship which starts next week.
Southgate said of Colwill’s involvement: ‘We wanted to have him with us for the week. We lost Lewis Dunk and were a defender short. He will stay with us until we get back to Manchester where we can assess where we are within this group and who is available for the next game.
‘He has done really well, we know he is a good player. We have been really impressed with his mentality and his ability.’
England’s second Euro qualifier this month is at Old Trafford on Monday when they take on North Macedonia. Conor Gallagher is also in the squad.
