Levi Colwill is confident the Blues will react positively to the rare defeat we suffered on Boxing Day when we meet Ipswich Town for the first time in the Premier League since 2002.

The defender acknowledged the loss to Fulham showed there is still plenty of room for improvement in this young and developing Chelsea team, particularly in the manner in which we let control of the contest slip away during an end-to-end second half.

Now Colwill says the Blues must not let standards drop as we aim to finish 2024 on a high.

‘We have to keep moving,’ he said.

‘December has been a tough month, with a lot of games, and we have another game in three days, so we have to keep going. We’re not where everyone expects to be, realistically. We still have a lot to improve on.

‘We have to keep pushing. We don’t have time to let our heads drop. We have to keep moving and keep improving together.’

Colwill recognises ups and downs are par for the course with this emerging Chelsea side, and while a surprising home defeat to Fulham is a setback, he is certain it will not trigger a sequence of poor results.

‘It’s going to hurt the momentum, but we can build it back up,’ he stated.

‘We weren’t lying when we said we weren’t in the race. This is a realisation we’re not there yet. We will just try to keep picking up three points.

‘We’re a very young team with a lot of confidence. We will be there again, don’t worry. We will keep going for the next game and get three points there.’
