It was a spectacular Sunday for England cricketer Sam Curran as he was named Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament after his side won the T20 World Cup in Australia.
It was the 24-year-old’s bowling in the final against Pakistan that marked him out but he is a decent batsman too, and when he is not playing cricket, there are few things he enjoys more than watching Chelsea play football, as he told this website on a visit to Stamford Bridge back in 2020.
‘I tour quite a lot, including to India for the IPL, which is a great deal of fun, so I don’t come to Chelsea as much as I’d like which is annoying because I love coming to Chelsea,’ Curran said, ‘but I still follow them on the live stream when we are abroad and always I wake up a bit early when the time difference means you have to.
‘But I try to come to games as much as possible. I can be at home for only a few weeks in the whole winter but as soon as I know there is a Chelsea game on I try to get down because I love coming. I live around the London area so it is quite easy access.’
Curran’s first live Chelsea game was a 3-0 win against Newcastle in 2014 when Eden Hazard scored a hat-trick.
He plays his county cricket for nearby Surrey, as does his older brother Tom who is also an international but was not part of this World Cup squad.
They share their love for Chelsea and visited the Bridge together for a stadium tour in 2017 when they were also interviewed for the club’s Chelsea magazine.....
