Marc Cucurella has said he was ‘angry’ that Chelsea only drew with Arsenal, with the Spaniard feeling our strong performance deserved all three points.
The Blues were two goals up against our London rivals at Stamford Bridge, before the Gunners hit back late on courtesy of strikes from Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard to claim a share of the spoils.
Both Arsenal goals came from Chelsea errors and it is the manner of the way we failed to see out the game which infuriated Cucurella more than the team performance, which the left-back labelled as ‘very good’.
‘The feeling is one of anger, really,’ Marc reflected on post-match. ‘I know we drew the game but it feels like a loss because we were in control.
‘We played very well, everybody put in a good performance but we need to improve in controlling the game better because we should have seen the result out and got the win.
‘The effort shown by the players was very good and deserved the three points, so to not win the game makes me angry.
‘We made two mistakes and got punished by a very good team. This is the Premier League, you can concede goals from mistakes and because we are a young team, I think this is something we need to work on and improve for the future.’
Despite not taking all three points, Cucurella believes there are plenty of positives to take away from the game and he has called on the Blues to focus on the performance levels and build on that from now until the end of the season as we look to climb the Premier League table.
‘We played well and there are definitely positives to take,’ added our number three. ‘If we play at this level for the rest of the season, we will win a lot of games.
‘Like I said, we are angry at the result but we are happy with the performance generally. It gives us confidence and we need to take this into the next game.
‘The reality is we have only come away with one point, which isn’t enough for a club like Chelsea, but for sure we have things to be proud of and things we can build on.
‘If we play like this going forward, I’m sure we can have a good season. We have only played eight or nine games, so there is still a lot of matches to play and a lot of points to be won.
‘We need to improve and keep building.’
