Marc Cucurella knows Chelsea still have so much to play for in the Premier League this season. It's why he believes the next few days before Sunday’s trip to Fulham are so important.
The Blues, who are in Conference League action on Thursday evening against Legia Warsaw, will make the short journey to Craven Cottage off the back of two draws in the league, the most recent of which was Sunday’s 2-2 with Ipswich Town.
Cucurella helped instigate the fightback by forcing Axel Tuanzebe to put through his own net early in the second half. Jadon Sancho then equalised with a stunner, but there was to be no winning goal despite plenty of late pressure.
After the draw at the Bridge, Cucurella gave his verdict on the game and explained what’s needed next.
‘The first 20 minutes were good and then we conceded two easy goals and struggled a little bit,’ he said.
‘That was difficult, but the reaction of the team was good. We created a lot of chances. If we play fast, we know we create a lot of chances, and we did that. Their goalkeeper made some good saves. We scored two, we could have scored more, but the reality is we lost two points.
‘Now we need to come back. It’s the last moment of the season. We have done a good effort all of the season to be here, now we need to recover fast and think in another way, because on Sunday we have another tough game.’
Cucurella praised Sancho’s moment of quality and the impact he made off the bench, before reiterating the need for collective effort in the coming days.
‘It was a very nice goal. He deserved it. He worked very well when he came in, he helped the team, he scored, and we have one more point.
‘The reality is we need to keep going. There are more games to play. It depends on us. We need to come back stronger and play a good game on Sunday.’
