The matchday programme for Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest celebrates our 1998 Cup Winners’ Cup triumph with a commemorative cover and an exclusive interview with Blues legend Gianfranco Zola.

Tomorrow’s match marks 25 years to the day since we beat VfB Stuttgart to lift only the second continental trophy in the club’s history, a game in which Zola came off the bench to smash home a sensational winner.

There’s plenty inside the programme harking back to a golden season, including the Italian magician himself speaking exclusively to features editor Dominic Bliss.

Zola, who has confirmed he will be back at the Bridge in early September to take part in the Legends match with Bayern Munich, was on top form as he spoke about some of the highlights of that run, his miraculous recovery to even take the field in Stockholm and why his time at Chelsea was the happiest period of his career.

‘My relationship with the supporters has always been amazing,’ he said. ‘I know I keep saying this and I look like I’m repetitive, but that’s why I think Chelsea supporters are special.

‘Considering all the big players they had in the years after us, considering all the trophies that they won in that time, for us to still be remembered like we are is something that I cannot describe in words. I feel so proud of being part of this team and having a legacy with them.

‘It was from day one. They liked me and I liked them, straightaway, and the good football kicked on straightaway, for me in particular. I needed that type of experience at that moment of my life. It really helped me a lot and also took me to better levels than ever before.’

As well as covering all the thrills and spills of our run to European glory in 1997/98 on the pitch, the programme also features a picture special from Blues fan Mark Sandom, who was part of the photography team in Stockholm for the final and captured some incredible shots of the Blues supporters that day.

Zola’s not the only Cup Winners’ Cup hero interviewed in the programme, as Gus Poyet reflects on our continental excursions in his time at the club and the special relationships formed in that squad that remain to this day.

There’s also the latest columns from Frank Lampard and Cesar Azpilicueta after the men’s first-team’s win at Bournemouth last weekend, while Emma Hayes reflects on Chelsea Women’s recent WSL action and the last of the PL2 and Under-18 Academy Premier League action is rounded up by Mark Robinson and Hassan Sulaiman.

That’s not to mention all the facts, stats and info you could need on the game at hand, as Pat Nevin offers his insights on Chelsea v Nottingham Forest fixtures through the Premier League era.
