Levi Colwill has been included in the senior England squad for the first time and is joined in the group by fellow Chelsea players Ben Chilwell and Conor Gallagher.

England manager Gareth Southgate today revealed his squad for the upcoming international break, which will see the Three Lions travel to Poland to take on Ukraine in a qualifying match for next year’s Euros, before a friendly against Scotland in Glasgow to mark the 150th anniversary of the first fixture between the two sides.

Levi Colwill has been rewarded for his impressive start to the season at Chelsea with a first senior international call-up. He had briefly trained with the squad in June after several players withdrew due to injury, but he wasn’t in the group for those matches and this is Colwill’s first official involvement at this level, following his starring role in the England Under-21s’ triumph at the European Championship over the summer.

Joining him on the plane to Poland will be Ben Chilwell, who is recalled by Southgate after being one of the players unavailable for those international matches in June as he continued his recovery from the injury which ruled him out for the end of last season.

He will be keen to impress his manager, as injuries have restricted Chilwell to just one England appearance since November 2021, the 2-0 home win over Ukraine in the reverse of the upcoming qualifying fixture, having missed last year’s World Cup.

Conor Gallagher completes the Chelsea trio linking up with England during the September international break, retaining his place in the squad after winning his seventh senior cap in the 7-0 thrashing of North Macedonia in the Three Lions’ last match in June.
