Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is looking forward to testing his ability in European competition once again, as he and Chelsea prepare to take on Servette tonight.
With plenty of European experience under his belt having previously featured in both the Europa League and Conference League previously with former side Leicester City, Dewsbury-Hall is excited to return to continental competition with his new club.
The 25-year-old midfielder believes European football provides a unique opportunity and challenge, with Thursday night’s first-leg tie against Servette offering just that.
‘I’m very excited,’ he said. ‘I have good memories of the last time I played Europe with my old club, so it’s lovely to be back and it’s a competition you want to play in. The fact we’re going to be travelling again is exciting.
‘Any competition you’re in is worth winning, whether it’s the Premier League or the Carabao Cup. It’s all silverware and it's all worth winning – especially in Europe because it shows you’ve done well in the Premier League to get in.
‘[For the club] to add another European trophy to the resume, I don’t think anyone would turn their noses up to that.’
Focusing on the game against our Swiss opposition, Kiernan feels that being perceived as favourites from the outside world is perfectly normal at a ‘massive club’ like Chelsea.
‘I think [being favourites] is the case with most games that Chelsea play,’ he continued. ‘It’s a massive club and there won’t be many games that we go into that we aren’t favourites to win.
‘The pressures you have as a Chelsea player is something you have to deal with and I know that myself and the players relish that. Hopefully we’ll show the fans that we are improving game by game and we'll have a good start to our European journey.’
Our talented midfielder was also pleased to make his debut for the Blues last weekend during our Premier League curtain-raiser against Manchester City, in front of the Chelsea faithful in SW6.
‘It’s an amazing feeling,’ Kiernan added. ‘It was a dream to make my Premier League debut for Chelsea. I would’ve liked to win, but it’s a tough first game.
‘Now I’ve made my first appearance, I’m looking to kick-on and play as many minutes as possible. I wouldn’t be here otherwise and I’m hoping to keep improving.’
