Our development squad play Leyton Orient in our final group game of the Papa Johns Trophy knowing a win will guarantee their place in the next round of the competition...

Mark Robinson’s men will face the team second in League Two in an all-important group decider. All four teams in Group O sit on four points after two games but with a superior goal difference, our young Blues are currently in second place.

The message will be to avoid any complications in qualification for the next round, however a draw with a penalty shoot-out victory will also see our boys through to the next round.

Competition so far

We suffered a setback in our first fixture of the group as Sutton United beat us by a goal to nil, despite the side from west London controlling most of the game and fashioning the better opportunities.

Dion Rankine and Omari Hutchinson both caught the eye in that game and went close on a number of occasions.

In our next game, we overturned Oxford United’s one-goal lead with two quick fire second-half goals.

In a win that was thoroughly deserved, a Mason Burstow lob which caught the keeper out and a fine Lewis Hall solo effort were enough to give us the victory over the League One outfit. Hutchinson did miss a penalty, but it did not prove to be costly as we saw out the victory that now puts us in a position to qualify.

Our opponents

The Os are flying high in League Two as they have only lost one game in the league this season after 13 games played.

Despite this, they are winless in their last three games with two draws and a loss, so there is an opportunity for our development squad to cause an upset and extend our unbeaten run in all competitions.

Leyton Orient’s sole victory in Group O came against Sutton United as they ran out 3-1 winners and on-loan striker from our Academy, Jayden Wareham, grabbed a brace in that game.
