Mentors and mentees from the Chelsea Foundation and trivago Empower Female Mentoring Programme enjoyed a special graduation event at Stamford Bridge last week.
The 22 young girls (aged between 16 and 18) from Fulham Cross Academy joined their trivago F.A.M.E (Female Ambassadors and Mentors in Engineering) mentors whom they have been working alongside throughout the programme, gaining valuable insights into their career journeys and real life experiences.
The Empower Female Mentoring Programme has consisted of 10 weekly workshops and experience sharing sessions themed around skills such as empowerment, aspirations and resilience.
As part of the graduation event, the mentors and mentees were joined by Chelsea Women legend Katie Chapman. She gave the participants an understanding of her career journey and challenges she has faced.
To complete the graduation, the mentors and mentees were taken on an exclusive stadium tour and surprised with tickets to Chelsea FC Women’s WSL fixture against Arsenal on Sunday, when the Blues took a big step towards the title with a 2-0 win.
Carolina, a trivago F.A.M.E mentor, said: ‘It was very rewarding to take part in the programme. Empowerment is not just about imparting knowledge or skills, it is also about fostering confidence and self-belief of the mentees.
'Through our partnership with the Chelsea Foundation, we hope to have inspired a new generation of fearless women. The graduation event was filled with motivational exchanges with the mentees and Chelsea legend Katie Chapman which I will always cherish.'
One of the mentees, Bushra, added: ‘Katie Chapman’s Q&A was very inspirational to hear her journey in football as a female player.’
