Enzo Maresca has emphasised the important role Chelsea supporters will play during the final weeks of the season, with the Blues head coach stressing that ‘football belongs to the fans’.

We return to Stamford Bridge tomorrow night to take on Legia Warsaw. A place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League is at stake – and we hold a 3-0 advantage after the first leg in the Polish capital.

The Blues are unbeaten on home soil in 2025; our supporters have played their part in that strong form. And with key matches still to come in the Premier League and Conference League at Stamford Bridge, Maresca has reiterated how the Blues faithful can help achieve our targets this season.

‘I think football belongs to the fans,’ Maresca said. ‘They are the main part and as a team and club, when your fans support you, I think it’s important because, first of all, the players can receive that feeling, which is important. I think we also have to be good enough to engage them, and for 25 minutes [against Ipswich Town] we were not good enough to engage them.

‘But in the first 20 minutes and the second half, the team did enough to win the game. Also, when you are 0-2 at home, it’s more complicated to come back in the game, but we did that quite well. So, I think the fans are important because they are the main part of any club in the world.’

We enter tomorrow's game against Legia in a commanding position – one that may also dictate how the Polish side approach the contest at Stamford Bridge.

Many of our recent outings in SW6 have come against opponents that sit deep and attempt to frustrate the Blues, both on the pitch and in the stands. Maresca appreciates that some have done this more successfully than others, but highlights that his players deserve credit for their application and adaptability in those difficult encounters.

'In the last six Premier League games at home, we faced Southampton, Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham, Tottenham, and Ipswich. We won five of those, but probably the one that the people enjoy most was the game against Tottenham.

'But they were the only team in the last six home games that they were trying to press higher. So, this is the reason why we probably attacked more and attacked more quickly. Against the rest, they waited inside the box, so it's a different game.

'We need to learn how to play this different kind of game. And we change tactically, game by game, we change.

'Even during games, such as in the last game against Ipswich, we started in one way in the first half and then at half-time we changed things.

'So, we are always trying to give to the players the opportunity to win the game, to create chances, and to do the right things.'
