Another London derby follows hot on the heels of our win over Tottenham Hotspur, and Enzo Maresca is confident the positive feeling from that victory will play an important part in our preparation for the trip to Brentford.
Almost exactly two-and-a-half days after the full-time whistle blew at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, we will walk out at the Gtech Community Stadium with more precious Premier League points up for grabs.
The short turnaround between games is not lost on Maresca, but our head coach believes the Tottenham result can help in the renewal of bodies and minds.
‘Every time you win, preparation for the next game is better,’ Maresca highlighted. ‘Hopefully, from the Tottenham game we can build momentum knowing that every game will be difficult until the end.
‘We need to recover energy and go again. For Sunday, it will be how we manage the tiredness. Brentford for sure will be a very tough game. You saw on Wednesday night they lost away at Newcastle, but it was a tough game. From now on, every game is going to be tough.’
Throughout the season, Maresca has emphasised the process his young team is undertaking. Now we have reached a point where there are only eight league fixtures remaining, he is determined to marry the impressive development of his side with a positive outcome at the season’s end.
‘The target is to try to finish where we have been all season,’ the head coach stated. ‘In the first five or six months, because we were second, the expectations changed a little bit. But all season, we have been in the top four or five, and we will try our best to finish there.
‘In terms of performance, every game is different. Our performance against Tottenham was perhaps better than other performances, but I was also happy with other performances because I know how difficult it is when teams sit back.’
