After yet another fantastic performance from Moises Caicedo in our 1-0 win against Tottenham, Enzo Maresca hailed the Ecuadorian’s high standards.

Caicedo was central to our dominance in midfield, bossing the opposition with his customary tough tackling and clever positioning. He battled through picking up a couple of first-half knocks and allowed Enzo Fernandez to add to our attacking threat. It was his midfield partner’s goal that settled a hard-fought London derby.

Of course, Caicedo was unfortunate not to double our lead. He showcased his technical quality with a pinpoint and powerful volley that flashed into the bottom corner. Unfortunately, just as in our win away at Tottenham last season, the VAR spotted an offside in the build-up to the goal.

Still, it couldn't dampen another fantastic night’s work for Caicedo, and Maresca did not hold back in his praise for the 23-year-old.

‘In this moment he is one of the best, if not the best, defensive midfielder in the world,’ enthused Maresca.

‘He is doing fantastic. The best thing about Moi is that every day he is working serious. He is very humble, very kind, polite. He is a fantastic guy. It was another great performance.

Maresca added: ‘Also, other players like Trev Chalobah did a fantastic game, but overall all the team was good.’
