Enzo Maresca insists he, his staff and the Chelsea players are not looking beyond tomorrow night’s game against Legia Warsaw, with full focus on confirming our place in the UEFA Conference League semi-finals.

The Blues go into the second leg at Stamford Bridge with a healthy 3-0 aggregate lead following our success in the Polish capital last week.

With a big west London derby awaiting on Sunday against Fulham, when we will resume our efforts to finish in the Premier League’s top five, it would be easy for the Blues to lose track of the job at hand. Maresca says that will not be the case.

‘We try to always prioritise the next match,’ he said.

‘The next match is tomorrow night and that for us is an important game because it gives us the chance to reach a semi-final of a European competition. That is the first one. So hopefully, we can reach the semi-final, and then focus on Sunday.’

Speaking to the media from the press room at Stamford Bridge, Maresca was asked how he balances the squad’s dual focus over the remaining weeks of the season.

‘The Premier League games, the six games we have, are all going to be finals,’ Maresca replied.

‘I’ve said many times, we win a game at this stage, you see yourself there and are happy, but if you don’t win, you can be a little bit sad or upset. But it’s how you manage in this moment the emotions. We have been there, and we want to be there again by the end of the season.’

At this critical point in the campaign, Maresca also highlighted the development his side has undertaken this term. That is part of the reason he stresses now is the time for everybody to stick together.

'This season, we have been in the top four most of our season,' he said. 'This is the reason why I think fans, they have to trust us, they have to trust the team, they have to trust the club, what we are doing now.

'I think it's a big proof that the team is improving and is doing the right things. This team, this season, is improving. It’s there, it’s in the numbers. This season we have almost always been in the top four. I think it’s quite clear we are in the right direction.

‘Now, is that enough? For me, no, because I want to fight with this club for important things – and we are going to fight for important things. But at the same time, the fans and everyone in this room, it’s correct to trust us because we are doing the right things.’
