Enzo Maresca has stated Cole Palmer, Reece James and Christopher Nkunku will all be monitored ahead of our Conference League second leg with Copenhagen.
The Blues welcome our Danish counterparts to Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening, looking to maintain our 2-1 aggregate lead from the first leg and book our place in the quarter-finals.
Our head coach faced the media at Cobham to preview the European tie and outlined the latest Chelsea team news, with the aforementioned trio having all struggled with illness over the past few days.
‘For Cole, Reece and Christo, today has been first session [of the week],' Maresca said. 'Yesterday they were not here and two days ago we had a rest. Today they trained with us, took part in the session, and we will see tomorrow if we can use some of them.’
Elsewhere, Maresca confirmed Malo Gusto remains sidelined for Thursday’s clash along with other longer-term absentees Marc Guiu, Nico Jackson and Noni Madueke, although the Italian hopes the latter two will return after the international break.
‘The only new one that is still injured is Malo Gusto. Noni, Nico and the rest are still out are still out. The rest they can play,' Maresca added.
When asked for more information on Jackson, the Italian added: ‘He could be back after the international break, Noni also. That’s good news.
'Now before the break we have two games, two efforts, tomorrow and Sunday, and then we have the international break and can recover energy, recover players, and then go for the last sprint.’
Romeo Lavia, who has not been included in our Conference League squad due to load management, is fit and in contention for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Arsenal having been on the bench against Leicester City last time out.
Maresca said: ‘Romeo is much better. He isn’t in the Conference League squad unfortunately but for him it’s similar to Reece James in terms of the main target for us is to help him be fit until the end and help him play as many games as he can.’
Finally, Maresca was asked whether he will go with Robert Sanchez – who played against Leicester – or Filip Jorgensen, who has predominately featured in the Conference League, to start against Copenhagen.
Our head coach remained tight-lipped on that front, insisting he is yet to make a decision on who will start.
‘We will see,’ added Enzo. ‘I haven’t decided yet and we still have 24 hours before the game tomorrow. As I’ve said before, we have two good goalkeepers in Rob and Filip, and we will make a decision.’
