Enzo Fernandez had two options when the ball broke to Cole Palmer in the dying stages of Monday night's game at Crystal Palace. He could either sit back and help Chelsea see out a narrow victory or burst forward and end the evening in style.

A natural showman on the pitch, it was little surprise Enzo chose the latter option. The Argentine drew on what remained of his energy reserves, sprinted 60 yards upfield, collected a pass from Palmer, and then displayed tremendous composure to score.

The goal was the 23-year-old's second inside a week – the other was his spectacular free-kick in our FA Cup victory over Aston Villa. Both secured 3-1 victories for the Blues, both were showcases of Enzo's quality.

'I could see Cole had started to run and there was a lot of space in front of us, so I decided to go with him,' Enzo says regarding his goal at Selhurst Park, which was his seventh in all competitions this season.

'It was an incredible assist from Cole, a very good pass between the lines, and then I took the time to make sure it was the perfect finish.

'I try to do my best to help my team-mates and the club. Luckily I'm getting the goals, so I'm happy and I want to continue in this way. I give my best in every training session and try to be better every day. Things are coming together and that makes me very happy.'

Our victory over Palace was hard-earned. The first half, by head coach Mauricio Pochettino's admission, was not up to scratch. It's why we went into the interval trailing.

The introduction of Christopher Nkunku coupled with a tweak to Chelsea's attacking set up ensured the Blues were much improved in the second period.

Conor Gallagher levelled immediately after the restart and the Academy graduate, who also covered more than 13 kilometers during the contest, then grabbed our second in the 90th minute. It was then left to Enzo to round off the victory.

'In the first half, I did not feel completely comfortable,' explains the Argentina international. 'They were very compact and had a line of five defenders and four midfielders. It was very difficult for us.

'In the second half, I think we corrected some of our mistakes and we were able to find those spaces that we were missing in the first half. Luckily the victory then arrived, so I was very happy.'

After a deserved day off, the Chelsea players return to Cobham today to begin the preparation for Saturday's trip to the Etihad Stadium to face champions Manchester City. The Carabao Cup final against Liverpool then follows. Both are big games for the Blues.

'There's a long way to go until the end of the season,' says Enzo. 'We are working hard every day, all the players and the coaching staff. We are moving forward and doing our best.

'We're on the right track and hopefully, we can win two titles this season. That's what we're looking to do.'
