Erin Cuthbert says a five-game winning start to our Women's Super League season is exactly how the Blues had hoped to get our campaign up and running.

A 5-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday extended our 100 per cent record in the WSL this season to five games. Cuthbert was on the scoresheet during the rout, as were Aggie Beever-Jones, Guro Reiten, Wieke Kaptein and Ashley Lawrence.

The Blues have made a flawless start to the season with a maximum of 15 points gained. It means we sit second in the table, one point and one place behind current leaders Manchester City who have played a game more.

Our victory against the Toffees kickstarted a busy November that sees Sonia Bompastor's side return to Merseyside this weekend to face Liverpool, before WSL home clashes with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge and Manchester United at Kingsmeadow.

We also face Celtic home and away in the UEFA Women's Champions League, with the Blues having also started our Group B campaign in impressive fashion with two wins from a possible two.

Cuthbert believes our excellent start reflects the quality the Blues squad possesses, but she insists there will be no complacency with the focus on improving and progressing.

'For the team and Sonia, it is the best possible start,' Cuthbert said. 'It's exactly the way we wanted to start the season. We want teams to look at our results and think they're going to be in for a tough game.

'We're taking it game by game because the league is a long way off. We have to keep our focus because this is a busy block of fixtures we're getting into. If you start looking too far ahead that's when you don't take care of what is in front of you.

'We're accustomed to these busy periods and the travel because it's what we do year after year playing in multiple tournaments. We'll be ready. There is so much depth in this squad that everyone will be ready to take their opportunity when it comes.'

Against Everton, Cuthbert opened her account for the season by netting our second goal of the evening. The midfielder pressed high and won possession just outside the box, before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

It was a goal, the Scotland international says, that exemplified how Bompastor had asked her side to play.

'I never really aim for goals but they are certainly something I want to keep adding to my game,' Cuthbert said. 'I want to keep showing a different dimension to my game.

'I think it kind of epitomised everything I am about in terms of winning the ball high up and pressing - never giving up. We got the press spot on as I was in a perfect position to press and put the ball into a trap for them. There was honestly nothing else in my mind other than scoring at that moment.

'We wanted to be aggressive. After the international break, there is always a bit of ambiguity about how we're going to look and feel off the back of being in camp, but I think there were a lot of good performances out there.

'We wanted to press hard and Sonia made that clear from the beginning. We know Everton are good at playing out and they broke our press a few times, but we kept going and it was worth pressing for the times we won it back in high areas.'
