Chalobah signed for Chelsea as an Under-9 and followed in the footsteps of his older brother Nathaniel in rising through the Academy ranks. He played most of his schoolboy football in defence, either at right-back or centre-back, but also occasionally in midfield.
He made his youth team debut at the tender age of just 14 and won multiple titles including the UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup, scoring semi-final and final goals in the latter in 2016/17.

Chalobah’s three loan spells have taken him from Suffolk to Brittany via West Yorkshire. His first senior loan was in the Championship with Ipswich Town, where he made 44 appearances playing in central defence and midfield but couldn’t prevent the Tractor Boys from suffering relegation.
In the summer of 2019, he returned to English football’s second tier with Huddersfield Town and was a mainstay in the Terriers’ defence as they retained their Championship status. The following season saw Chalobah head to France to join newly promoted Ligue 1 side Lorient, where he made 30 outings.
