Our first away day in the UEFA Women’s Champions League sees the Blues travel to the Netherlands to face FC Twente. Here is all you need to know ahead of the clash between the English and Dutch champions…

Following last week’s opening victory in Group B against Real Madrid, our first trip of this European campaign takes us to Enschede to face Twente.

It will be the first-ever clash on the European stage between the two sides, with the Dutch club featuring in the group stages for the first time since the format was introduced in 2021. But, they are no stranger to the UWCL having reached the Round of 16 on three previous occasions.

When and where

We face Twente at De Grolsch Veste on Thursday 17 October, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm UK time.

How to follow

You can follow via the match centre on the official Chelsea website and official app, and through Chelsea Women’s social media channels with match commentary posted on X and regular updates available on Facebook and Instagram.

The Group B encounter will be broadcast live on DAZN for those watching in the UK.

It will also be broadcast around the world on DAZN, excluding China, the Middle East and North Africa. beIN Sports will broadcast the game live in the Middle East and North Africa.

The form

The Blues got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start last week with a 3-2 win over Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

Sjoeke Nusken, Guro Reiten and Mayra Ramirez were on the scoresheet in SW6, which ensured a maiden European win as Chelsea head coach for Sonia Bompastor.

In the Women’s Super League, we have won all three of our matches this season, with 10 goals scored and only one conceded. Our most recent league win came against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon when the Blues prevailed with a 2-1 victory.

Our hosts also won their opening European match, beating reigning Scottish champions and Champions League newcomers Celtic 2-0 at New Douglas Park.

Twente have played three games in the Eredivisie thus far, winning one and drawing on two occasions.

Recent head-to-head

Chelsea have never faced FC Twente prior to Thursday night’s clash.

However, there will be one player in the Blues squad who is more than familiar with Twente and that is our midfielder Wieke Kaptein.

The Dutch 19-year-old signed for Chelsea last summer from our upcoming opponents and spent the 2023/24 campaign back on loan in the Eredivisie. She made her debut for Twente at only 15 years old whilst playing in the Champions League.
