The matchday programme for this weekend’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace pays tribute to PFA Award winner Cole Palmer, with an ode to the creative midfielder’s excellence in his first year as a Chelsea player.

Palmer’s outstanding 2023/24 season was recognised at the recent prestigious awards ceremony and programme features editor Dominic Bliss has taken a deep dive into what makes the 22-year-old from Wythenshawe such a devastating force in this Blues team, with insights from the man himself.

'Yeah, I do like responsibility,' Palmer reveals, discussing his prominence in the side. 'I like people looking to me to score or assist, and stuff like that. I do enjoy it.

'The way I’ve been playing, if I then don’t play like that for a game, then people will start questioning, if you see what I mean,' he adds, highlighting the relentlessness with which he sets his own standards.

The cover star this weekend is hat-trick hero Noni Madueke, framed perfectly on the front page with his match ball from Molineux. All three of his goals were laid on by Palmer, a friend since their schoolboy international days, and he pays tribute to the award winner too.

'He’s a unique talent,' Noni said of Palmer, speaking long before receiving his hat-trick of assists. 'He’s got a wiry quickness and really clean movements. His left foot is a wand… he’s one of my favourite players, to be honest.'

Elsewhere in the programme, music sensation Noah Kahan speaks at length to programme editor Richard Godden about his deep-rooted love for Chelsea, revealing he has supported the club obsessively since childhood.

'I had the jersey, I watched every game and I kind of just became obsessed really quickly,' he explains. 'My mum and I would watch every single game together. If friends stayed over, they knew they were getting up at 7am to watch Chelsea.

'When we had Champions League games, my mum would drive up to the school and take me out – I’d skip my last class to watch Chelsea! The only time she would let me swear was during Chelsea games! We were faking British accents (sorry) and cursing at the TV. It just became this thing that was part of our relationship together, something we could support, and it’s carried on into adulthood for me.

'It’s a commitment! I love it man, it’s a real passion and, for me, it’s an escape from stress. It’s feeling like a kid again, being able to escape the world for 90 minutes of pure joy.'
