At Cobham this morning the Chelsea players trained for the final time before Everton’s visit to Stamford Bridge, mixing physical, technical and tactical work.

The Blues are aiming to back up last weekend’s late show at Craven Cottage with another big three points in our quest to finish in the top five. With three of our rivals for those positions in FA Cup action, Chelsea have the chance to make significant progress up the table and put pressure on the teams around us.

Enzo Maresca’s squad were hard at work today out on the training pitches in the Surrey sunshine. The Toffees have proven to be obdurate opposition for all since David Moyes returned to the dugout, and one of the challenges facing Maresca and his players will be breaking them down at the Bridge.

In his pre-match press conference, Maresca praised the job his counterpart Moyes has done throughout his career.

He described Moyes as one of the Premier League’s great managers, and pointed to his longevity in the role as proof of the work he has done.

For Maresca, it is his 50th game in charge of Chelsea, although he will not be able to enjoy it from the touchline because of a ban picked up following the yellow card he received at Craven Cottage. He spoke today about bringing up his half-century.

‘It’s been a good experience and I’m very happy,’ Maresca said. ‘I have learned many things here.

‘Playing in many competitions and playing every three days, it’s a journey in terms of learning things. We have had some good moments, some bad moments but the club has a vision and we are just at the beginning of that vision.’

Another win tomorrow will be a significant step towards realising that vision.
