It was back to work for Chelsea's players at Cobham this morning as the countdown to our FA Cup fourth-round tie against Brighton and Hove Albion continues.
Saturday's trip to the Amex Stadium is the first of back-to-back fixtures against the Seagulls – and four members of the Blues squad will be on familiar ground.
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez spent a decade with the Seagulls after joining the club at 15 years old while Levi Colwill enjoyed a loan spell on the south coast during the 2022/23 campaign.
Meanwhile, Moises Caicedo was a Brighton player for two years before joining Chelsea in the summer of 2023 and Marc Cucurella spent the 2021/22 campaign with the Seagulls prior to his switch to Stamford Bridge.
Both players have earned praise for their performances this term, and Cucurella highlighted the impact of Caicedo after his player-of-the-match showing in our 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Monday evening.
‘He is very important,’ said the Spaniard. ‘I knew him at Brighton as well, as we were team-mates there. He is very important, he is very relaxed. He shows everything on the pitch, he’s very hard-working and he’s a very important piece for us.
‘I think he’s one of the main talents of the team and he shows every game what he can give to us. We’re happy for him and I’m really happy because I know his first games here were tough, but he worked hard and now deserves all these moments.’
Today's session began in the gym before the players made their way out onto the training pitches – and there was a new face acclimatising to the surroundings at our Surrey training base.
French midfielder Mathis Amougou completed his transfer to Chelsea from Saint-Etienne earlier this week and undertook his first session with the group.
‘I'm very happy,’ Amougou said after sealing his switch. ‘It's an honour for me to sign for such a big club like Chelsea. They believe in young players and the process they have in place to develop us is fantastic.’
Enzo Maresca oversaw today's workout at Cobham and he will undertake his pre-match press conference tomorrow, which you can watch live across the official Chelsea website and the official Chelsea app.
