On a beautiful morning at Cobham, the Chelsea players were hard at work as preparations began for the trip to Aston Villa.

The Blues are aiming to put the league defeat at Brighton behind us when we travel to the Midlands on Saturday, and the work towards that game began in earnest at our training base in chilly but sunny conditions.

As usual, the goalkeepers trained separately to the outfielders for much of the session. Filip Jorgensen, Robert Sanchez, Marcus Bettinelli and Lucas Bergstrom loosened up with a series of warm-up drills before getting to work with the football.

The outfielders started with pre-activation work in the gym before heading out onto the grass, where they were quickly into the thick of things undertaking passing drills.

After consecutive setbacks on the South Coast, Malo Gusto has called for a response from the group to get us back on track.

‘The most important thing is the reaction for the next game,’ he said. ‘We just need to give our best for the next few games.

‘We will give everything to be there at the end of the season. We just have to keep pushing and do our best.

‘We just have to do better for the next game because it will be important for us to stay in the top four and that’s our target.’

Saturday’s game at Villa Park kicks off at 5.30pm and you can follow it live across the official Chelsea app and the official Chelsea website, with live audio commentary and minute-by-minute updates in our match centre.
