With games coming thick and fast for Enzo Maresca and his Chelsea players, the first-team squad regrouped at Cobham today to recover from our Conference League win over Legia Warsaw and begin preparations for Sunday's Premier League encounter with Ipswich Town.
An impressive display in the Polish capital on Thursday night saw the Blues secure a 3-0 victory in the first leg of our quarter-final tie. There was a first senior goal for Tyrique George in Warsaw before Noni Madueke struck twice after being introduced from the substitutes' bench.
After arriving back in the UK in the early hours of Friday morning, it was straight back to work at a sunny Cobham today, with our quest to secure Champions League football for next season continuing on Sunday when Ipswich visit SW6.
Among those refreshing and resetting at our Surrey training base were Josh Acheampong and George, who both earned praise from Enzo Maresca for their performances against Legia.
‘I am really happy for the Chelsea Academy, first of all,’ said Maresca. 'Tyrique is one of our boys from the Academy. I’m very happy for him.
‘He was quite good in the first half; he took responsibility. In the second half, in the middle, he was even a bit better.
‘For me, potentially, Josh can be a fantastic player for this club and in football in general. Since we started, I am in love with him, but last night he showed he can be a very good player for this club.
‘A good player shows you they can play in different positions. He was a good full-back, as a midfielder was good, and as a central defender good. It’s not about playing in that position, or that position. If you are a good player, you can play in different positions.’
Also involved in today's session was Nicolas Jackson, who was an unused substitute in Warsaw as Maresca continues to manage the forward's minutes following his return from injury.
‘We need to manage him because you can see his importance to us,’ explained the Blues head coach. ‘It was harder playing games without him because he is that kind of striker who is always a threat to the opposition’s defensive line, and he is also very aggressive off the ball.
'With Nico, I think we are a better team, so we are going to try to manage him until the end.’
Also out on the grass were Tosin Adarabioyo and Cole Palmer, who were brought off at half time of our win in Poland, in what Maresca confirmed after the game were pre-planned changes.
'We planned the changes to Cole and Tosin [at half time] in the same way we planned to make second-half changes against Brentford in order to be a bit stronger.
'Legia was a bit of a mix. We wanted to protect some of the players that were on the bench, and to give them some rest.'
The Blues kick off against Ipswich at Stamford Bridge at 2pm and you can follow all the build-up, action and reaction as it happens in our Chelsea vs Ipswich Town Match Centre.
