Enzo Maresca was out on the training pitches at Cobham on Thursday with a mixture of the senior players not on international duty and youngsters from our Academy as the hard work continues at our Surrey training base.

A number of players from our senior squad are absent this week as they represent their countries – the full list can be found here – during the international break, but that doesn't mean the work stops.

Several members of Maresca's squad remain in Surrey and they joined our head coach out on the grass to continue preparations for of our next game, a Premier League trip to Liverpool on 20 October.

The size of the training group was bolstered on Thursday by members of the Chelsea Under-21s squad, with their head coach Filipe Coelho and his staff watching on from the sidelines.

Maresca said after our 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest on Sunday that he is happy with the progress his team has been making so far this season.

Yet there is always more to work on in training as our campaign picks up momentum.

'When we started the season, to think by the second international break you are fourth, the way the team are playing, the way the team are learning to play different kinds of games, for sure I am very happy,' said Enzo.

‘We have 14 points from seven games, it is important, but for me it is also important to see the way we got 14 points – it has been in different ways, in different types of games, home and away.'

The international break also offered a timely opportunity for those recently returned from injury to continue working on their fitness and sharpness ahead of the Premier League's resumption,

That includes Romeo Lavia, who was among the substitutes for our last two games following a month out of action.
