As another Chelsea season draws to a close, there is a new chance for fans to add to their clothing collection with a celebration of club history – but with a dark or a light twist!
Launched today, the two Black Out and Blank Out shirts build upon two big successes in our retro range, giving a fresh look to a Nineties classic.
Treble top
The year 1998 will be one long-remembered at Chelsea as it served up two European trophies and a cup final win at Wembley. The iconic blue-and-white jersey worn for the three triumphs and throughout those seasons led to our best-selling retro top so far, as well as being the inspiration for the 2023/24 home kit.
A year ago we took another of our popular past shirts, the 1991-1993 vintage, and blacked out its colours and blanked out its design - and a big hit that proved too! Now two winning ideas combine to celebrate a treble of trophy wins.
With our two new shirts - the Black Out and the Blank Out edition – the 1997-1999 Chelsea shirt is now available in stylish all-black, including black badge and sponsorship on the front, plus continuing the innovation and adding to the range, for the first time there is a crisp, all-white version also on sale today.
Both shirts feature a retro-style collar with either black or white ‘Chelsea FC’ text on the back, and have a regular fit for comfortable everyday wear.
Monochrome modelling by Blues stars
Starring in the launch is Roberto Di Matteo - one of the legends who collected the League Cup, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in that special calendar year - and he is joined by current Blues Mykhailo Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku, and from the Chelsea Women squad, Ashanti Akpan – as trademark current looks fuse with our flashback to ’98.
Whether you were there for the original seasons or you are looking for a token of the club’s history to wear with pride wherever you go, shop the Black Out & Blank Out range now via our online store or at the Megastore at Stamford Bridge.
