Jessie Fleming is on the cusp of a significant personal milestone at Chelsea, which our Canadian midfielder could potentially reach at Manchester City in the Barclays Women’s Super League this lunchtime.

The 25-year-old is one competitive appearance away from 100 games in Chelsea colours, and any kind of involvement in Manchester this afternoon will see her become the newest member of the Blues' 100 Club.

Fleming, who represented her native Canada at the World Cup this summer, is entering her fourth season at Chelsea. She committed her immediate future to the Blues when she penned a new contract at the end of last year.

One week after our opening day victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge, Fleming sat down at our Cobham training base to reflect on the result, our performance and learnings to take as we move forward.

‘First and foremost, it was really important for us to get the win right off the bat. It’s a game we’ve struggled with the last two years and it’s challenging for every team coming off the international break. Tottenham are a good team but for us, it was positive to get the win.

‘That’s not the best Chelsea that we’re going to see this year. We’re still hoping to grow as a team but that’s kind of what you can expect from a first game. We’ll take the three points and grow from there.’

It had been a long time coming for the players and our fans to be reunited at the Bridge. Fleming heaped praise on the fantastic support the squad received and is excited to see a sold-out away section up north this weekend.

‘It felt great and it was a lot of fun! It was nice to be back in front of our fans, interact with them and get the win. The fans are very important, especially at a place like City who love playing at home and get a good turnout.

‘For me, Chelsea fans are the best in the league. They are always loud when we travel away and when you go up to a place like Manchester, it’s extra important.’

Our opponents today enjoyed a winning start to their WSL campaign against West Ham United last time out. Fleming discussed what she is expecting to see from our hosts and believes it’s a good challenge in only the second game of the season.

‘City are a good team, they’re always a good team. They keep possession and they’re very good on the ball and they definitely present challenges. For us it’s a great test for the second game.

‘We’re looking forward to it and it’s always a good game with them, so hopefully they will bring out the best in us.’

An appearance this Sunday would be the Canadian’s 100th for the Blues. In typically humble fashion, she was blissfully unaware of the impending landmark but could not hide the pride she feels in representing the club.

‘To be honest, I wasn’t aware until it was pointed out to me. It feels like it’s gone by so quickly. I’m so proud to play here, so proud to be a part of this club and part of this group.

‘For me, it’s just another game but it’s definitely exciting and probably more so for people like my friends and my parents. I just feel really proud to be part of Chelsea.’
