There’s a French vibe to the matchday programme for today’s game against Brighton, as midweek hat-trick hero Christopher Nkunku features on the cover and Wesley Fofana talks about his return to action in the main interview.

Fofana has had a tough time with injuries since becoming a Blue two years ago, but he’s been a key player in the early weeks of Enzo Maresca’s reign – and he’s embracing every aspect of his return to first-team football.

‘I’m very happy,’ he says. 'After a long time out, I am enjoying every moment and it’s very good to be playing again. I worked very hard to come back stronger and every game I play, I feel better.

‘I missed playing at Stamford Bridge, with the guys. You miss playing football, because training and games are very different things, and you don’t feel the same sensation until you are playing games again.

‘You feel something when you are out on the pitch, inside the stadium. I don’t know how to explain it but you feel something inside. At the first game of the season, against Man City, I felt that again, and I felt just joy.’

The other big interview in the programme is with Salomon Kalou, a Champions League winner with the Blues in 2012.

In a fascinating first-person piece, the Ivorian takes an in-depth look at his time at Chelsea and the big personalities at the club who helped shape him as a footballer and a man. He also reveals what he’s been up to since hanging up his boots.

Club historian Rick Glanvill looks back at the life and times of Dave Sexton, who managed us to FA Cup glory in 1970 and also enjoyed some of his best years as a player with Brighton, plus the programme includes the latest from head coach Enzo Maresca, captain Reece James and columns from the Women’s and Academy set-ups.
