Wesley Fofana has been withdrawn from the France international squad by the French Football Federation due to injury.

Fofana was forced off in our match with Everton last weekend, in what Graham Potter had hoped was just fatigue to his hamstring.

The Chelsea defender was awarded for his fine form for the Blues with his first ever senior call-up by Didier Deschamps but will now miss the chance of a first cap in either of their upcoming Euro 2024 qualification matches against the Netherlands and Ireland. The news was announced by France on Monday morning.

Fofana, who is 22, made his return to club football after injury a month ago and featured in each of our four March fixtures, scoring the winner in the first of those against Leeds United.

Wesley’s Chelsea team-mate and fellow centre-back Benoit Badiashile is with France's Under-21s squad.

As Potter had maintained would be the case in his Friday press conference last week, England on Monday afternoon confirmed Mason Mount remains at Chelsea to continue his injury rehabilitation and will not take part in the internationals versus Italy and Ukraine.
