The Chelsea Foundation are continuing to deliver the BTEC in Sport programme at Fulham Cross Academy sixth form throughout lockdown to engage local young people and help them to pursue a career within the sport industry.
The study programme consists of Level 2 or Level 3 BTEC in Sport modules with the enhancement of work-based and enrichment activities.
The programme is delivered by fully trained teaching and coaching staff, while the Foundation also organises additional specialist teaching and learning sessions delivered by experienced sports professionals.
Prior to the global pandemic, activities offered to students on the programme included visits to Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham, business tours of Stamford Bridge and also FA Level 1 in Coaching opportunities.
Given our relationship with St Mary’s University, students have also been provided with visits to the university campus to give them an insight into opportunities for progression via our Chelsea FC Foundation programmes in collaboration with St Mary’s.
Further education course tutor, Elliot Herbert, said: ‘During the lockdown period we have been supporting students daily.
‘This has not only been educational support but also a safe space where young people can simply have a catch up from outside their household, giving them an opportunity to speak to people for individual issues.
‘We have found that with added, additional efforts from our staff that the outcomes with high lesson attendance and assignment deadlines have been kept and are still remaining to be vital to the success of all our students.’
