Roberto Di Matteo’s squad for the March date on Merseyside when rivalries reignite is beginning to take shape with the unveiling today of four famous names to play in goal, defence, midfield and in an attacking role out wide.
Chelsea Legends will travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool Legends on Saturday 22 March when Carlo Cudicini, Gary Cahill, Ramires and Florent Malouda will all be in action.
Di Matteo was last month confirmed as in charge of the team and the Champions League-winning manager will be able to call on a former Chelsea Player of the Year in Cudicini – one of the sharpest and most agile goalies in our history with a brilliant penalty-saving record.
In front of him in defence will be the towering presence of European champion and former Blues captain Cahill, who swept up every trophy he contested.
Further up the field, Ramires will be re-living his high-energy days in the centre of the park that served up back-to-back Chelsea goals of the season, including that legendary lob in Barcelona, while Malouda, who also played a part in that Champions League campaign brings representation from Chelsea’s Double winners of 2010.
As well as rolling back the years and stirring great memories, Chelsea Legends against Liverpool Legends will raise funds for the Chelsea Foundation and in particular, the Chelsea Players' Trust which supports the welfare of those who made the club what it is today.
Tickets for the match are on sale now, and the rest of the Chelsea Legends team will be announced in the coming weeks.
