Trevoh Chalobah was left frustrated at the manner of our home defeat to Arsenal on Sunday lunchtime but insists Chelsea cannot dwell on that result and must look ahead to two important fixtures this week.
The Blues were edged out by our London rivals at Stamford Bridge, as a second-half goal from Gunners defender Gabriel - who tapped home following a corner - secured Mikel Arteta’s side all three points.
It was a game that had all the passion and energy of a London derby, but was one of few chances and the manner of the winning goal is what left Chalobah so frustrated when reflecting on the game as a whole.
‘We’re disappointed to lose the game, especially when we came into it on the back of a very good result and performance in the Champions League in the week,’ the defender explained.
‘Coming into the game, all the boys were in confident mood so to concede off a set-piece is a killer for us and we’re really frustrated to lose a goal in that way.
‘There are never any easy games at this level, you can get punished easily and a set-piece has cost us. I didn’t think there were too many chances in the game and we’ve just switched off at a set-piece, which is really frustrating.
‘I wouldn’t say there’s anything specific lacking from our performances but I think we can improve the final details.
‘We’ll watch the game back, try and pinpoint the mistakes we made and ensure we fix them and find the right solutions going forward.’
The Blues have the opportunity to put right this defeat with two games coming up in the next seven days, with away trips to Manchester City (Carabao Cup) and Newcastle (Premier League) on the horizon.
Chalobah believes getting positive results from those fixtures are even more important given they are the final matches before the pause for the World Cup, with the Academy graduate aiming to help Chelsea head into the break on a winning note.
‘The manager said to us in the dressing room afterwards that we’ve got to pick our heads up and we can’t dwell on this result,’ Trev added.
‘We’ve got two big games now before the World Cup break and it’s really important we head into the break in a positive frame of mind.
‘The Newcastle game in the Premier League next weekend is really important for us. It’s the final fixture before the World Cup break and we need to ensure we’re in a good position.’
