In one of the tightest votes for the Chelsea Goal of the Month award, Conor Gallagher’s stunning strike against Crystal Palace has pipped Kai Havertz’s effort in Salzburg as October's best.

There was very little to choose between the pair, and in the end Gallagher received precisely 39 more votes than Havertz, accruing a 31 per cent share of the poll.

Gallagher’s goal, his first for Chelsea, decided a tight London derby in our favour with just a minute to spare. Against his former club, Gallagher beat his man on the edge of the box and bent an unstoppable curling strike into the top corner. It was some way for the midfielder to open his account for the Blues!

Mason Mount’s free-kick at Aston Villa came third with 25 per cent of the vote, not a million miles behind Havertz in second who received 30 per cent.

Gallagher joins Ben Chilwell and Kalidou Koulibaly as a Goal of the Month winner this season.
