Filipe Coelho's squad left everything on the pitch on Friday evening, clinching all three points in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over London rivals Arsenal in Premier League 2 action at Kingsmeadow.
Yesterday's London derby kept everyone on the edge of their seats with end-to-end action from start to finish, giving us an entertaining fixture in our Premier League 2 clash.
Although Chelsea started our exciting Friday night derby with some early threatening chances, it was the visitors who found the breakthrough just six minutes into the game. Nathan Butler-Oyedeji beat Max Merrick in goal with a fine finish, setting the tone for a tough battle.
However, with the support of our fans at Kingsmeadow Stadium, we stayed in the game and eventually found an equaliser through Donnell McNeilly, which came from a brilliant team effort.
First-year scholar Shumaira Mheuka played a smooth back-heel pass to Tyrique George, who drove down the wing and delivered a perfect squared ball to McNeilly. Our Chelsea striker fired the ball straight into the bottom corner, leaving the Gunners' keeper helpless, meaning we were brought level at the break.
During the interval, we enjoyed special half-time entertainment from our current Under-8 academy boys, who showcased some of our training drills, keeping the crowd entertained during the break.
The Blues came out with force in the second half, hungry for the lead. It was Brodi Hughes who got his name on the scoresheet with an outstanding cross-like finish that flew over the fingertips of Lucas Nygaard and into the top corner, leaving the crowd speechless.
The remainder of the game was a tough battle for Chelsea, as Arsenal fought until the end for a late goal, however, our side remained strong and stood tall, ensuring we would seal the victory and come out on top in an exciting London derby that did not disappoint.
