Guro Reiten compared our win against Manchester City in the Women's Super League to a game of chess, with the attacking midfielder saying the Blues executed the game plan perfectly to secure the victory that sent us top of the table.

With only one point separating the league's top-two sides before kick-off, it was sure to be a close encounter. And, that's exactly how the game played out in front of almost 20,000 fans inside Stamford Bridge.

It took 75 minutes for the deadlock to be broken during a tightly-contested affair. Mayra Ramirez put Sonia Bompastor's side in front before Reiten doubled our advantage only four minutes later with a clinical finish that secured the three points and our place at the summit.

The victory against City means the Blues have won each of our seven WSL games thus far, with a perfect 21 points gained.

'Every game matters, of course, but this was a very important win.' Reiten told us. 'We're still early on in the season and there are still many more games to be played, but we approach every game the same and that's shown in our performances and results this season.

'We have won every game so far and that is good. Hopefully, we can keep that up. This win was really important against a tough opponent. City have been great so far this season.

'It was two good teams against each other. It felt like a chess game - who was going to move the pieces first and what were we going to do with them?

'We had a game plan and, like Sonia said, we executed that perfectly. They had more possession, but we knew when we won the ball that we would have to be ruthless, and I think we were. It's a very nice win with two great goals.'

Reiten's second goal against City increased her return for the season to seven goals in ten appearances across all competitions. She was delighted to get on the scoresheet after being picked out by a superb Lucy Bronze pass.

'I was screaming so loud,' Reiten added. 'They gave me a lot of space on the side, but luckily Lucy saw me and gave me the ball. I just tried to get it in the corner and I did. It feels amazing to score. The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge was unreal.'

The Blues are back in SW6 on Wednesday evening when we face Celtic in our next Group B encounter in the UEFA Champions League, before we return to league duty to play our game in hand against Manchester United at Kingsmeadow on Sunday.

We will go into these games full of confidence thanks to our 10-game winning run, having picked up three points in each of our league and European matches thus far, and Reiten knows how important such good feelings can be during such a busy period.

'It gives you confidence,' Reiten said. 'We're in a good rhythm right now and we know we have to keep going. Everyone knows the importance of each game. We've shown that so far and, hopefully, we can keep doing that.'
