Hannah Hampton says the mood in the Blues squad could not be better after we secured our sixth consecutive win in the Women's Super League.

The goalkeeper kept her fourth clean sheet of the season to help Chelsea to a comfortable 3-0 win over Liverpool in St Helens on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Mayra Ramirez and Guro Reiten late in the first half and a 90th-minute strike from substitute Aggie Beever-Jones saw the Blues extend our perfect start to the league campaign. We remain second in the table, one point and a place behind current leaders and our upcoming WSL opponents Manchester City, who have played a game more.

A victory on the road against Liverpool has been a long time coming, with the Blues last winning away to the Merseyside club in March 2019. And Hampton knows how important Sunday's three points were.

‘It’s big,’ Hampton said following the win against Liverpool. ‘We knew the challenge they were going to bring. We knew we had to work hard all over the pitch to get a result.

‘They’re a very good team on the transition and have got really fast forwards up top, so we just had to be alert to that for the whole game.

‘The three points are massive to us. The fans have definitely let us know that we’ve not won up here in a long time, so the fact that we broke that curse is good. It is what we needed to do.

‘We know how important this run is. The games are coming thick and fast, but we’re loving every minute.

‘We’re playing with freedom and we’re trying our best with Sonia’s style of play – and it’s showing in the results we’re getting. The more we’re performing, the more you want to get back out on the pitch and do it all again!’

The shutout against Liverpool saw Hampton claim back-to-back clean sheets and her fourth in total in the WSL this season. But our goalkeeper was reluctant to take the credit as she explained how it is a team effort.

‘I don’t think it’s necessarily my clean sheet,’ the goalkeeper said. ‘As a back line, we should take pride in that and as a team, we’re defending very well.

‘I don’t have much to do in some games because they’re blocking every single shot. I’m lucky the defence is working so hard. I’ll help this team as much as I can and if that is making only one save in a game then so be it. I’ll be ready for that.’
