Kai Havertz’s brilliant winner against Newcastle United has been overwhelmingly chosen by Chelsea supporters as the best of our goals in March.

The German was in fine form throughout the month, as he found the back of the net four times in his three Premier League appearances, with the dramatic 89th-minute goal at Stamford Bridge to seal a 1-0 victory over a stubborn Magpies side the pick of the bunch.

Credit goes to Jorginho, too, for the assist after he picked out Havertz with a lovely ball over the top, but it was our No29 who takes the accolade for a brilliant goal. Having shown clever movement to escape his marker on the edge of the box, the 22-year-old produced an impeccable first touch to pluck the ball out of the air, before quickly prodding a shot past the stranded goalkeeper with the outside of his boot.

Unsurprisingly given the quality – despite some strong competition among the nine other nominated goals across the Blues’ men’s, women’s and Academy teams in March – Havertz’s winner to beat Newcastle was chosen as the fans’ favourite by a big margin, with a massive 63 per cent of supporters on the official Chelsea website and The 5th Stand app choosing it as our Goal of the Month.

In a distant second place in the poll, receiving 13 per cent of the votes, was Reece James’s twisting solo effort against Burnley at Turf Moor, followed by Mason Mount’s goal at Norwich City and then Hakim Ziyech's at Middlesbrough, on eight and seven per cent respectively.
