Emma Hayes has warned her Chelsea players there is ‘nothing more dangerous’ than facing a Real Madrid side with nothing to play for in the UEFA Women’s Champions League this evening.

The two sides meet at Stamford Bridge and a victory for the Blues would guarantee our place in the knockout stage of the competition.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, sit bottom of Group D with just one point to show from their four matches thus far. Yet Hayes has highlighted the quality the Spanish side possess and the freedom with which they can play in tonight's fixture.

'We are at home and everyone will have us as favourites before the game,' explained the Chelsea manager. 'But it’s Real Madrid, they have a quality squad, have a lot of internationals, and did score against us and draw in the reverse fixture.

'We know what we have to do and I always say to our players let’s focus on that and make sure the performance is as good as it can be.'

Hayes continued: ‘There is nothing more dangerous than facing a team that has nothing to play for. They will fear nothing and they will have their pride on the line.

'They are playing for three points but can’t qualify, so it’s a dangerous place for us if our mentality is to rule them out. It’s something we won’t be doing.’

There are no new injuries heading into the fixture and Hayes confirmed that a late decision will be taken over Lauren James, who wasn't involved in training yesterday as she continued her recovery work at Cobham.

A win at Stamford Bridge would ensure Chelsea progress to the knockout stage with a game to spare. Given the Blues' busy fixture schedule, it's no surprise that is Hayes' ambition.

'It’s the aim. We want to be in that position,' she said. 'We’re at home, have played the opponent before, and know their qualities. For us, we have to keep building on the quality and standards we’ve set. I know that the focus on ourselves is the key.'
