Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes will be in the Stamford Bridge dug-out to take charge of a side packed with footballing legends and celebrity stars in the Game4Ukraine.

The match on 5 August will bring together some of the biggest names in football and entertainment to raise funds for the restoration of a school which was damaged by the war in Ukraine, ensuring that children in Chernihiv Oblast can learn in a safe and stable environment again.

There will be two teams competing on the Stamford Bridge pitch, captained by former and current Ukrainian internationals Andriy Shevchenko and Oleksandr Zinchenko, with Chelsea legends Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Essien, Samuel Eto’o and Gianfranco Zola already confirmed to be playing.

In addition, it has now been revealed that Shevchenko’s team will be managed on the day by Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes, fresh from leading the Blues to the Double in 2023 by winning the Women’s Super League and Women’s FA Cup. That was Chelsea Women’s fourth consecutive title under Hayes and took the total number of trophies won during her management to an incredible 15.

‘I couldn’t think of anyone better to lead out Team Shevchenko on 5 August,’ said Shevchenko. ‘Emma needs no introduction. Her success speaks for itself.’

Another league and FA Cup winning manager Arsene Wenger, who will be taking charge of Team Zinchenko, also shared his respect for the coach who will be sitting in the opposite dug-out at the Game4Ukraine: ‘I’m really excited to be sharing the sideline with Emma. She has revolutionised the women’s game and her credentials are up there with some of the best coaches in world football.’
