Bashir Humphreys followed up his goal on international duty with England Under-20s by setting up the opener as Paderborn returned to winning ways in Germany, earning the young defender Loan Performance of the Week

Humphreys cleverly flicked on a near-post corner 13 minutes into Paderborn’s home game against Greuther Furth, allowing captain Ron Schallenberg to head in from close range.

Paderborn then extended their lead with two goals after the hour, and though their clean sheet was spoiled by a pair of very late Greuther strikes, making the final scoreline 3-2, it was an important victory for the central German side.

That’s because keeps them in check with Hamburg, who occupy third place and the final play-off promotion spot in the 2.Bundesliga. They are seven points adrift with six games remaining having just gone four without a win before Sunday’s success. They travel to Hamburg in their penultimate game.

This was Humphreys’ eighth appearance since arriving in January, in what is his first loan spell away from the Bridge, and his first goal contribution. He had scored against France for England Under-20s in a draw in Spain five days prior.
